The region Belo Horizonte, in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais, has become one of the largest biotechnology-clusters in the country. The management of the local BioRegio organization “Fundação Biominas” has signed an agreement with the Bavarian region, i.e. BioPark GmbH.

Center for Medical Biotechnology Opens at BioPark
The final cornerstone at BioPark, the Center for Medical Biotechnology has opened. At the new center, researchers can combine their know-how in the field of tissue engineering with regeneration medicine. Seven workgroups, from various research disciplines at the university, clinic and from the region, share a 500 sqm facility.

EuroVacc successfully completes first clinical phase
The Regensburg based biotech company Geneart GmbH announced the successful completion of the first clinical study of a HIV-vaccination, under the guidance of the European Research Consortium, EuroVacc, at the World Aids Conference in Thailand. This is the first confirmation of a promising development of the first vaccination against the immune deficiency known as AIDS.
