The Regensburg Foundation “Human Tissue and Cell Research” (HTCR) held a first meeting of experts with a framework theme entitled "Human Tissue - The Gold of the 21st Century?" -a current area of tension between medical progress and ethical responsibility. 30 participants from the fields of science, pharmaceuticals, medicine, ethics and law discussed how human tissue that is discarded in operations can be safely and harmlessly supplied for research.

Geneart AG located in BioPark Regensburg has formed a partnership with the Dutch holding society Qiagen N.V. to market synthetic mammalian genes. Both companies listed on the stock market complete each other in their core businesses of the manufacturing of genes and gene libraries and profit reciprocally from their international marketing networks and customer relationships. The market for synthetic genes has an estimated volume of 50 – 63 million Euro and is growing annually by at least 30 %.
