New Network Optical Technologies in Photodynamics
In Regensburg a new network project has successfully started in the field of photodynamics. The network’s goal is to implement medical applications such as tumour diagnostics or tumour control with the aid of novel optical technologies.

In the next two years for 14.5 million €, the third construction phase with a further 6,000 m2 will come into realisation with funding also from the federal Economy Programme II. This also lays the way for further successful development of biotechnology in Regensburg and East Bavaria.

With the foundation of BioPark Regensburg GmbH ten years ago, the success story for the biotechnology field in the region of East Bavaria was initially ignited. The region consisted of 23 companies with 400 employees in 1999, today there are around 40 enterprises employing 2586 people – a good six times more than ten years ago. It has developed into the second largest competency network following Munich in the state.

Transcatheter Technologies GmbH was founded in January 2009 at BioPark Regensburg and develops novel medical products which can reduce the trauma of cardiological surgical intervention. So-called “transcatheter aortic valve prostheses” represent leading technology in the field of the new generation of catheter-supported heart valve prostheses. Both of the founders had previously worked in Singapore.
