With BioPark III connection to rapid data network underway
R-KOM has been constructing and running tele-communication networks in Regensburg and East Bavaria since 1997. Already in 2006 the company was able to install the first fibre optics cable together with BioPark Regensburg on the university campus, as part of a project supported by the State of Bavaria. The rapid development in computers, internet, multimedia and telephony makes adaption of the infrastructure necessary even after a period of five years. With the completion of the third construction phase, now the connection of the BioPark to the new network “Glasfaser Ostbayern” (Fibre Optics East Bavaria) is to take place. This makes so much more than just any kind of technology for data transfer available to the leaseholders on site.
With the new network, which introduces the fibre optics to individual offices, highest data transfer rates can be achieved. Currently speeds of 1,000 mbit/s are delivered, which corresponds to a 500-fold speed of an average DSL connection. This allows services to be used such as video-streaming and IP-TV (InternetTV) in high definition HDTV for conference calls as an example. Distant business locations amalgamate into one local network. One clear advantage for international companies active in the BioPark. With the third construction phase, the two existent buildings BioPark I and II are to be connected, so that all six server rooms, each with two per building are connected in a ring closure to Glasfaser Ostbayern (Fibre Optics East Bavaria). This allows data transfer between buildings at the speed of light.
