US Delegation from Georgia in BioPark Regensburg

In July 2007 State Premier Dr. Edmund Stoiber received the Governor of Georgia Sonny Perdue in the Chancellery and agreed upon close cooperation between both states. These words were soon put into action in the form of a 12-head delegation in the areas of politics, economy and tourism, led by Senator Judson Hill and the Chairman of the Department for Promotion of Economy and Tourism of the House of Representatives in the US State of Georgia, Ron Stephens. The participants wished to concentrate on forming a picture of investment promotion and the political framework regulations in Bavaria. The BioPark in Regensburg was listed on the visitors’ program by special request as a successful example of the High-Tech Offensive of the State and economic promotion of the city.
The delegation was informed on site about the framework regulations that made the successive development of BioPark Regensburg GmbH to BioPark II possible. By means of a lecture the company Geneart AG was able to impressively present the road to success from its foundation from the University to becoming an international company listed on the Stock Market. Following this the Delegation visited Gerresheimer Wilden GmbH, which has been operating a production workstation since 1993 in Peachtree City in Georgia for the US Market. Georgia, with almost 10 million inhabitants, is twice as large as Bavaria and the state capital Atlanta has about 500,000 inhabitants.
Following a city tour through the world heritage site of the old town in Regensburg the Delegation was received by the Bavarian Minister for Federal and European Affairs Mrs Emilia Müller and the Lord Mayor Hans Schaidinger. Here the plans for further cooperation were defined. “Atlanta will be the organiser in 2009 of the largest worldwide Biotechnology Trade Fair BIO in the USA”, emphasised Managing Director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. A great opportunity for the Bio-technology Cluster in Bavaria to carry on networking with the leading nation in the field of biotechnology.
