University Foundation Prize for BioGents GmbH

The Biogents GmbH was founded at the end of 2002 from the University of Regensburg and is researching to find the perfect agent to attract mosquitoes, which are rather burdensome at our degree of latitude, and in other countries on the other hand can cause epidemics such as yellow fever or malaria. In a world overloaded with pesticides the company uses selective aromatic signals to combat insects in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. The agents developed to attract the insects and the trapping systems can also be used in tropical climate zones, as they can work with propane gas or dry ice. The company has already put its first product on the market with its first mosquito trap, the BG-Sentinel. Currently mosquito traps make 120 million dollars per year alone in the USA.
