Technical Institute for Regensburg
With the new title, the University of Applied Sciences sees the opportunity to expand the applied sciences in the area in the future. In association with the Technical Institute Amberg-Weiden, in particular the commercial demand for academically qualified specialists should be secured for the future. Apart from Regensburg and Amberg-Weiden applications from Deggendorf, Ingolstadt and Nuremberg were successful. In Regensburg and the region of East Bavaria the OTH is to be a focal point with five themes: energy and mobility, information und communication, life sciences and ethics, production und systems.
In the field of interdisciplinary linking of the life sciences with other fields the University of Applied Sciences has pushed ahead with projects relevant to the future in the last five years. In the field of microsystems technology the groundwork of bio- and chemosensory technology for diagnostics and analytics has been laid down. With new cooperations in optoelectronics, the first steps in the field of optical diagnostics and photodynamic treatment have been undertaken. Here a Regensburg School of Optical Engineering is planned. With the Regensburg Centre of Biomedical Engineering recently established at BioPark Regensburg, new degrees have already come to life. Their specialities lie in the analysis of medical data, biomechanics, medical information systems (eHealth), implantology and appliance technology for medical technology.
The interdisciplinary education and links to research and economy and economy with economy are fields of future relevance for new innovations and products. In biotechnology and the life sciences this trend is already evident. From the coverage of the total value added chain from the idea to the product of the user, this is already spoken of as health economy as an overriding interdisciplinary concept.
