Successful development of the Regensburg Company BioGents

BioGents was founded in November 2002 from the Institute for Zoology at the University of Regensburg. The company develops new, environmentally friendly methods of combating insect pests, in particular mosquitoes that can transmit pathogenic agents. BioGents is a worldwide sought after specialist in this area. The company is particularly known for its excellence in the development of new active substances as attractants, and also for specific types of trap systems for the surveillance and combat of harmful insects. In March of this year BioGents set up comprehensive surveillance traps for gnats across Germany based on an initiative from the Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). Gnats are insects which transmit the pathogen for blue tongue disease. Furthermore, the American Health Authority CDC has made a new order for traps from Biogents, this time for a trial in Central America. Meanwhile the company has received requests which exceed total turnover for total trap systems in all preceding years. In addition to the increase in turnover, BioGents will soon receive a further patent for an attractant mix to extend its fields of business.
