Strategic partnership for medtech systems from a single source
Gerresheimer AG is the global partner for pharmacy, biotech, health and cosmetics with a very wide range of products for pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging as well as drug delivery systems. The company is an innovative solution provider from concept to delivery of the end product. At the Upper Palatinate locations in Wackersdorf, Pfreimd and Regensburg, more than 1,250 employees currently work in the pharmaceutical and medical technology sector. The company employs around 11,000 people worldwide and generates annual turnover of around 1.5 billion Euro.
Zollner Elektronik AG, with its headquarters in Zandt in the Cham district, is one of the world's largest manufacturing service providers for electronic and mechatronic components (Electronic Manufacturing Services, EMS). With almost 12,000 employees at 23 locations in Germany and abroad, the company generated turnover of around 1.9 billion Euro in 2021.
The partners, who are leaders in their markets, combine Gerresheimer's expertise in innovative devices for administering medication and medical technology systems with Zollner's global electronics expertise. Together they want to expand their expertise in healthcare and open up new markets.
With their partnership, the companies are following the trend towards electronic, digitally controllable and networked devices for administering medication and diagnostic systems. “Digitization of medical devices is advancing at a rapid pace. At Zollner, we are delighted to have found the ideal partner for expanding our successful Healthcare & Life Sciences division with Gerresheimer,” said Markus Aschenbrenner, member of the board at Zollner."Together we will expand access to existing markets, open up new growth markets and accompany our joint customers throughout the entire life cycle of the products."
Zollner and Gerresheimer have already gained experience from cooperation: the electronics specialist from Zandt is already supplying components and assemblies for a medication pump used in Parkinson's therapy to Gerresheimer. "The future belongs to digital treatment support with electronic systems and networked platforms," said Dietmar Siemssen, CEO of Gerresheimer AG. “The partnership with Zollner supports us in offering our pharmaceutical customers innovative medtech solutions from a single source. For patients, the use of these solutions means better treatment and a raise in quality of life. At the same time the healthcare system benefits from permanently lower treatment costs.”
Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH is part of the Regensburg Bioregion and a partner of the Healthcare Accelerator that is currently being set up in the BioPark. "We want to be a competent partner for the further development of the start-ups in the BioPark and at the Regensburg universities, as well as the booming companies in the cluster, the region and globally," explained Manfred Baumann, Global Executive VP Sales & Marketing, Administration & TCC MDS at Gerresheimer Regensburg. "For this purpose, we offer small series production for development samples, clinical samples and small series at any time in the project in our Technical Competence Center in Wackersdorf. Of course, we also take care of the subsequent large-scale production in our international production facilities.
