State-of-the-Art Oncology for East Bavaria
On 1 July 2016 the CCCO at the University Clinic of Regensburg (UKR) and Caritas Hospital St. Josef was brought to life. The CCCO serves as a central coordination institution for interdisciplinary oncology healthcare provision, research and further education in the East Bavarian region. Cancer is following heart disease the second most frequent cause of death in Germany. Approximately every fourth death in Germany is due to cancer. In February 2015 the "University Cancer Center Regensburg", a cross-regional merger of oncology centers of the UKR and Caritas Hospital St. Josef was founded. This infrastructure is now being further developed and expanded within the CCCO in the fields of fundamental oncology research, translational research and early clinical trials for patients with tumors. In parallel a regional network is being created for the treatment of oncology patients, the optimization of research structures and for the continuing education of doctors and nurses clinically in the East Bavarian region.
