Si4Health: A New Biotech-Tenant in BioPark
Si4Health GmbH, became a corporation, with three founders in July of this year. The company plans to carry out the implementation and research of innovative products in the field of Tissue Engineering, i.e. artificial skin for skin grafting. Each of the products are based on a new type of an inorganic poly-silicic-acidic-matrix, which due to their composition are superior to other similarly found products on the market. This matrix makes direct grafting, for example in the case of burn victims possible, because the matrix is bio-reabsorbing and can be broken down (catabolized) by the regenerated (organic) tissue. The matrix also makes it possible to integrate other medicines (therapeutic remedies) such as anti-inflammatory medicines. For larger wounds, patient cells can be cultivated and “built into” the matrix, so that a “cell-lawn” can be applied to the wound and new skin can be generated.
The CEO of Si4Health, Iwer Baecker, worked for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, which also works together with BioPark Regensburg. The success of the relocation into the fully occupied premises, is owed almost entirely to the cooperation of the tenants of BioPark I, who showed solidarity and moved closer together for the sake of Si4Health, keeping in mind, the construction of BioPark II, which will be completed in 2005, where another 6.000 sqm will be available.
