Sensors “Made by PreSens” lead to growth and success
PreSens GmbH, also founded from the Regensburg University Clinic, has since its foundation made a name for itself worldwide in the field of non-invasive measurement of the life-essential parameters of oxygen, pH and carbon dioxide. Its systems were initially based in academic realms at the beginning of the company’s history, and today PreSens products are to be found in just about all leading pharmaceutical companies. A further mainstay are sensors for quality control in the food stuffs industry, and not least inspired by its proximity to Neutraubling Krones AG, a world market leader in bottling plants. Nowadays if the packaging material is more environmentally-friendly, then often oxygen monitoring from PreSens is behind this. To meet the requirements of the high demands of quality control, PreSens is certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. The last certification was successfully completed as part of the expansion of business activities in the field of medical technology in 2009. PreSens delivers oxygen monitoring units to a growing number of producers of medical equipment. Its newest product here is a compact system for online monitoring of cell growth, which allows assessment of the pH and oxygen of cell cultures without sampling or external intervention.
The company PreSens in the BioPark with its cross-sectional sensory technology is a typical example of successful interdisciplinary application in the Cluster BioRegio Regensburg. The company was one of the first leaseholders in house in 1999 and through its huge success has meanwhile increased its employees to 72. Further expansion is to occur shortly in the new building BioPark III. The company is not VC-financed and carries all its research and development activities solely through its turnover. This is also no exception in BioRegio Regensburg, simply “small yet fine”.
