RCHST follows RCBE to the BioPark Regensburg

The Regensburg Center of Biomedical Engineering was founded in 2012 as an overarching faculty and university institution at the East Bavarian Technical University (OTH Regensburg) and the University of Regensburg. At the RCBE biomedical and engineering competencies are linked together. Specialties are medical informatics and biomedical engineering. Up to the completion of their own premises at the OTH Regensburg (Biomedical Engineering: Oct. 2016, Medical Informatics: Feb. 2018) BioPark Regensburg GmbH, an enterprise of the City of Regensburg, considerably supported the growth and scientific activities at the RCBE with provision of floor space at the BioPark. In the new buildings at the OTH Regensburg biomedical engineering research and development can be undertaken in modern S2 laboratories.  Medical informatics now also has its own rooms available for research in various disciplines. Furthermore RCBE is working, after its decisive beginning at BioPark Regensburg in the framework of a multitude of final projects and in numerous publicly funded third-party projects on technical topics, which are centered on medicine.

To support Regensburg as a science location, the BioPark has endorsed the use of the premises at the BioPark by the OTH Regensburg. The Regensburg Center of Health Sciences and Technology (RCHST) links the expertise from biomedical engineering, medical informatics, health and social sciences in research, development, teaching and further education in the region at the OTH Regensburg. In doing so the OTH Regensburg is taking on current societal changes and project changes such as demographic change in Germany, advances in biomedical engineering and digitalization in medicine as well as growing heath awareness and is developing innovative solutions for this. "The project groups of the RCHST at the BioPark are an important university partner for our activities in the project Healthcare Regensburg”, commented BioPark CEO Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. “For our start-up activities and project development by users and developers in the field of healthcare, the active integration of the RCBE and RCHST laboratories is especially very fruitful”, added Project Manager Dr. Ilja Hagen. OTH Vice President Prof. Dr. Klaudia Winkler and RCHST CEO Dr. Alexander Leis also welcome the close cooperation. “Our lecturers, staff and students have perfect access via the BioPark and its project “Healthcare Regensburg” to industry-oriented events”, said Prof. Winkler. “The multitude of start-up activities at the BioPark and TechBase have huge value for all students”, said Dr. Leis.
