Raumedic wins Medica Excellence Awards
The medical technology company located in BioRegion Regensburg at Helmbrechts is, with currently 420 employees, a leading system provider for the medical technology and pharmaceutical industry. Raumedic develops and produces innovative diagnostic and treatment systems for indications in the fields of neurosurgery, urology, gastroenterology and trauma medicine. With its novel telemetry system for the measurement of intracranial pressure in patients with hydrocephalus, the company won one of four Medica Excellence Awards in the category "Excellence in Daily Operations" process or product related idea optimisation.
The telemetry system from Raumedic represents a completely new solution application for the testing of intracranial pressure in patients with hydrocephalus syndrome, a genetically determined illness causing expansion of the brain, also know as water on the brain. Worldwide the system is the first cable-free ICP pressure measurement system with which intracranial pressure can be monitored over a longer period of time. Pressure probes to date carry a high risk of unrecognised infection. With the telemetry system from Raumedic the sensor tip is positioned with a microchip catheter into the patient’s parenchyma. The plate-shaped ceramic casing, which contains the electronics, lies above the top of the skull. The catheter is implanted completely under the scalp, with this acting as a natural barrier to infection. With 4,571 exhibitors over an area of 120,000 m2 and 134,500 visitors, Medica 2011 has justified its reputation as a leading trade fair worldwide for medical technology, medical technology products and medical IT.
