Plans for TechCampus Regensburg have begun
An initial development plan for the 35 hectare area of the Nibelungen Barracks evacuated in 2007 has already been submitted. Due to its immediate vicinity to the city centre and the University, an area is to arise on the part foreseen for commercial use in which business and science can spatially merge. The concept plans for a TechCampus in which offices and workshops can be leased, but also be independently constructed. In the framework of an urban development planning competition up to 20 different concepts for the building and the area are being developed. The first element planned is a technology centre with a 12,000 m² area. The building should be completed in 2014 in two building phases. In the new building a technology-oriented start-up and innovation centre is to be created for young companies in the fields of information and communication technology as well as cross-sector technologies such as sensory technology. University activities could also be included in the centre, in a way similar to BioPark Regensburg. The BioPark will also profit from the neighbouring TechCampus. Companies for which the BioPark has become too small will be able to purchase properties in walking distance on the 120,000 m2 TechCampus and for the purposes of expansion build and lease for themselves.
