New company ras materials started up in Regensburg
Silver is one of the oldest natural materials used by man. Its bactericidal properties in an age of increasing antibiotic resistance are of great importance. It is estimated that yearly several hundred thousands of people are infected by multiresistant bacteria in German hospitals. Surfaces free of bacteria in catheters, bone cement, replacement materials, medical instruments, containers etc save lives. Using the brand name AgPURE, ras materials offers very homogenously distributed nanosilver, with whose aid can equip synthetic materials and surfaces with antibacterial protection. Different to other processes to date, it has been possible to develop a very economic production process and an extremely high quality nanosilver (absolute homogeneous distribution with a very narrow particle size distribution). This has already been confirmed in independent OECD studies. The specially bound nanosilver particles can not be disconnected by mechanical impact. In addition to medicine, textiles and synthetic products are furthermore a large field for application. As a developmental technical milestone, it has been assessed that AgPURE successfully was incorporated into textile synthetic fibres - not only providing superficial layering. ras materials has impressively demonstrated how the potential of new intelligent material technologies and raw materials successfully have opened up new markets at the interdisciplinary location of Regensburg.
