Iris Biotech GmbH – 20 years of successful travel around the world
Seeking a family-run biotech company that has grown economically and effectively without venture capital and investors with business contacts around the globe, this can only be found in a few companies in Bavaria. "At the turn of the millennium there was a veritable boom in biotech, and there was a spirit of optimism, especially in peptide synthesis. My father, Oskar Tropitzsch, saw a great opportunity here and started looking for a suitable sales channel," remembers Steffen Tropitzsch, Managing Director of Iris Biotech GmbH in Marktredwitz. The search led his father to Dr. Thomas Bruckdorfer, who at that time had specialized in the sale of peptide synthesizers.
Dr. Bruckdorfer was initially responsible for marketing and sales. Team members from the main company, Cfm Oskar Tropitzsch GmbH, provided support with order processing. The business volume increased steadily and the first employees became permanently employed. "This setup enabled us to grow economically and effectively, " explained Dr. Bruckdorfer. Iris Biotech's product portfolio has grown rapidly to over 6,000 products today. The company also expanded spatially from a "garage company" to a new building with currently 25 employees. The company scores against the competition personal customer contacts from the Indo-Pacific region through its quality (in accordance with GDP - Good Distribution Practice). Iris Biotech works a lot with universities and supports their research projects. The company is listed in all universities in Germany and throughout Europe and is considered a reliable supplier. There are also many American and Japanese biotech and pharma customers. In 2013, Iris Biotech Laboratories opened its own laboratory in Willstätt on the French border.
Iris Biotech is one of the most active companies on the international trade fair and conference floor, as this is where the client networking takes place from all continents, also in digital form during the Corona pandemic. Cluster manager Dr. Thomas Diefenthal has been able to convince himself of this at many Bavarian joint stands run by Bayern International. "When we consulted to two Korean companies in the BioPark, I was with Oskar Tropitzsch at the BIO Korea Trade Fair in Seoul," said Diefenthal. "It was very impressive to see how Mr. Tropitzsch incorporated places, clients and stories from the time of his first visit in the sixties (!). In many ways, Iris Biotech reminds me of my first company that was also family-run. Here, too, there was mentoring and entrepreneurship in everyday work, plenty of freedom for new, innovative ideas and little fluctuation,"said Diefenthal. Steffen Tropitzsch also has a clear idea of how Iris Biotech should develop in the next few years: "I would like to advance our business, especially in the EU, in the USA and Japan, and also via the Bavarian Joint Stands of Bayern International."
