Groundbreaking and Start-up of Phase Two (BioParkII)
The first phase (BioPark I) with 6000 m² has been full since 2001, thus the realization of the second phase had become very necessary. The groundbreaking on April 22nd was attended by the State Secretary of Bavaria, Hans Spitzer, representatives from the university, local politicians and representatives of BioPark I. BioPark II was made possible with grants from the State of Bavaria, the city of Regensburg and loans the company got on its own. Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, Director of BioPark, made it clear that the scene in BioRegio Regensburg continues to develop in spite of the consolidation phase. “ There simply is not enough room for further expansion and development of recently awarded start-up companies in the region,” emphasized Dr. Diefenthal. “The economy in Regensburg is flourishing,” according to Regensburg Mayor Hans Schaidinger. The unemployment quota is currently under the Bavaria average and the number of employed has been growing continuously for years now, that is one of the reasons why the city administration is pursuing the TechnologyPark Regensburg project.
