Gerresheimer invests 25 million € in its Upper Palatinate plant
Gerresheimer is a leading manufacturer of high quality specialty products made from glass and plastic for the international pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. In 2007 the company took over Wilden AG in the BioRegion Regensburg and is now expanding in the location of Pfreimd in the district of Schwandorf. The Mittelbayerische Zeitung reported that a new production hall is to be built in Pfreimd, in which medical plastic systems will be manufactured in clean rooms with injection molding machines. To date at the Pfreimd location there are 550 employees according to company data. The company produces inhalers, items for people with diabetes such as insulin pens, lancing devices and disposable items for laboratories. The business field of plastic systems is one of the most strongly growing business fields of the company. The Pfreimd plant belongs within the Düsseldorf Gerresheimer Group to the business field for medical plastic systems, which has its headquarters in Regensburg and furthermore in Upper Palatinate a development centre in Wackersdorf. The company is founding the million dollar investment in Upper Palatinate with the increase for demand. The demand for forms of administration of medicines that patients can use easily has risen sharply. Examples of this are injections systems, insulin pens or inhalers. The group of companies at Gerresheimer currently generates in 45 locations in Europe, North and South America and Asia a turnover of around one billion Euros and employs around 10,000 employees. With first class technology, convincing innovations and targeted investments the company is systematically expanding its strong market position and in doing so strengthening the medical technology location in Bavaria.
