Gerresheimer Group buys successful company of tradition - Wilden
The Gerresheimer Group is a leading enterprise in the business field of glass packaging in particular for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. The company develops and manufactures a comprehensive palette of products made of pipe glass and special container glass, and additionally packaging and application systems made of glass and plastic. Gerresheimer has production plants in 21 locations in Europe, America and Asia and employs around 6,000 employees worldwide, of these two thirds external to Germany. The turnover ran up to over 600 million € according to latest calculations. Since 2004 Gerresheimer has been a member of the international investment group The Blackstone Group®.
Wilden AG is a traditional company of almost 60 years from Upper Palatinate and in this period has developed into a European Market and technology leader for innovative plastic systems. The company has eight production sites worldwide, including factories in Pfreimd (Medical Technology) and Wackersdorf (Technical Competence Center), and four joint ventures with a total of more than 2300 employees. Lastest figures demonstrated a turnover of over 200 million €, 59% of which was made in the field of medical plastic systems. In the BioPark Wilden formed a third location in Regensburg in 2006 with a showroom for its medical technology products.
With the acquisition of Wilden, the Gerresheimer Group is set up in the future in the four business fields of tubular glass, moulded glass, life science research and plastic systems. The turnover volume of the group will reach up to over 900 million € and in the future have production sites in more than 31 locations in America, Europe and Asia and have more than 8,500 employees worldwide. To maintain Wilden's top brand name, contrary to usual proceedings the company name will remain the same and will continue under the management of Gerresheimer Wilden AG in its locations in Upper Palatinate. The management regards this purchase as a strategic addition of know-how with the motto "Glass meets plastic", therefore there is no risk of loss of positions in the workplace.
