GeneArt Products now belongs to Thermo Fisher Scientific

The company Geneart AG founded through the University of Regensburg was and is one of the most successful companies at BioPark Regensburg. After its foundation in 1999, the company grew rapidly at BioPark and went on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2006. Following the establishment of a second pillar in the Industrial Park Regensburg, today over 200 employees work on a total of 7,500 m2. The lucrative company was taken over by the US concern Life Technologies Inc. in 2010 and was thereby able to develop as a world leader and sought after pioneer in synthetic biology. The Regensburg location was expanded further following the takeover.
Now the American company Thermo Fisher Scientific has executed the 13.6 billion US $ (10.1 billion €) takeover of Life Technologies and thereby has risen to one of the leading companies in gene sequencing. Thermo Fisher currently employees 50,000 people in 50 countries and recently generated a profit of 17 billion US$ (12.6 billion €). With the divisions “Thermo Scientific”, “Life Technologies”, “Fisher Scientific” and “Unity Lab Services”, the US-American technology company has its headquarters in Waltham, approximately 20 km von Boston in the State of Massachusetts, the largest supplier worldwide for scientific applications. Also following the change in name further investment will be made in the Regensburg location. An expansion of the research and development activities is planned at BioPark Regensburg.
