Fourth Workshop on Health Care Sector

In December 2015 the results of a location analysis on the health care sector in the region of Regensburg were presented, which the city of Regensburg had commissioned through BioPark Regensburg GmbH. The results unveiled chances and potentials within the growth area of the health care sector (see press release no. 162). One of the recommendations for action of the location analysis was the creation of a "Health Care Sector Masterplan" for the city and the region of Regensburg.

„We started this series of workshops in order to set the cornerstones for the various topics of the “Health Care Sector Masterplan” for the region of Regensburg”, explained Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, CEO of BioPark Regensburg GmbH, where the fourth workshop took place on Monday, 21st of November. Together with the experts from the various stakeholders in the healthcare sector in Regensburg and the region, the contents of the masterplan are developed in the workshops.

While the first workshop at the end of July had its focus on the subject area of "Cell Therapy and Oncology" (see also press release no. 171), the second one on "Digitalization / E-Health / Telemedicine / Medical Technology" (see also press release no. 172), and the third workshop on the topic of the “Aging Society”, the recent, fourth workshop now focused on the topics “Skilled Professionals & Training“. Once again experts from the university hospital and the various other hospitals, university and research institutions as well as government and administration representatives attended the workshop in order to discuss and align their vision of the future on how to tackle the challenges linked with the shortage of a skilled workforce, especially within the field of nursing, in Regensburg and its surrounding region.

„In the workshops we particularly want to map out the various links and possible synergies, which exist between the fields of action and the cross-cutting themes which we had identified in the location analysis and which we will use as structure for the masterplan – for example, the synergies and opportunities arising from digitalization and e-health with regard to medical care and nursing or in view of the shortage of skilled workforce and in the context of training”, mentions Dr. Oliver Müller, author of the location analysis and Partner in the field of Pharma & Health at Detecon International GmbH, who supports the workshops and the process for development of the masterplan with his consulting team.

Detecon is a worldwide active consulting company, which unites classical management consulting with great digital technology expertise. As a subsidiary of T-Systems, Detecon is a part of the Telekom Group and merges business and technology perspectives into a consistent digital change journey for its clients.

„The upcoming fifth workshop of the series in December will focus on the topics of „location marketing & economic development”, and another sixth workshop is set to take place in January or beginning of February, which will focus on the topic of “innovation & company founding””, explains Dr. Diefenthal. “It is our goal to present the finalized masterplan in the fall of 2017. The document shall contain an overview of the potential as well as initial recommendations for action”, adds Dr. Ilja Hagen who has joined the BioPark team as project manager for healthcare since beginning of October (see also press release no. 173). This is also of high interest for the Free State of Bavaria. The state supports the activities with a project grant for “Promotion of Healthcare in Regensburg / Cluster” financing the two positions created for this purpose at BioPark Regensburg GmbH as well as associated materials for the first three years.
