First Workshop on Health Care Sector
"Together with the key players in the health care sector, we want to define in a master plan the strategic directions for development in this field for Regensburg and the region. The City of Regensburg sees great potential in the field of health care and wishes to contribute with its involvement to this effort, to realise this potential and thereby create jobs", said Dieter Daminger, Consultant for Economics, Science and Finance to the City of Regensburg and member of the executive board at the BioPark, in his welcoming address to the participants at the first workshop for creating the masterplan.
This first workshop took place on 25th of July at the BioPark and brought together experts from the university hospital and the various other hospitals, university and research institutions as well as from government and administration (see figure 1 on page 2), to discuss and agree upon the content cornerstones in the thematic area "cell therapy / oncology / molecular genetic analytics". The workshop set the start of a process for the development of the masterplan.
The project will be supported by the author of the location analysis, Dr. Oliver Müller. He wrote the location analysis – then at Capgemini Consulting – and will, having in the meantime made the change to Detecon as a Partner in the field of Pharma & Health, continue with his team to support the activities in Regensburg. Detecon International GmbH is a management consultancy active worldwide, which unites classical management consulting with great digital technology expertise. As a subsidiary of T-Systems, Detecon is part of the Telekom Group and merges business and technology perspectives into a consistent digital change journey for its clients.
"Digitalization and e-health is a further thematic area with great potential. We are planning the next masterplan workshop on these topics, anticipated to take place in September", said Oliver Müller. The thematic areas of the workshops are based on the recommended priority topics from the location analysis (see figure 2 on page 3). The compilation of the priority topics is based on interviews, which were conducted in the context of the location analysis – both with representatives of clinics and hospitals as well as representatives of medical practitioners, and furthermore with representatives from tertiary institutions, health insurance companies, rehabilitation and care facilities, government and administration as well as from other healthcare regions and clusters. "In follow-up discussions after the location analysis which I conducted together with Dr. Diefenthal with former and new interview partners this spring, these priority topics were revalidated", added Oliver Müller. "An overall theme are the challenges resulting from the ageing society. Also at our present workshop, in which possible masterplan content in the fields of cell therapy and oncology has been in focus, this whole range of topics for the masterplan was confirmed once again by the participants. Furthermore we were able to complement the picture with the latest developments, for example the CCCO, The Comprehensive Cancer Center Ostbayern, which came to life at the beginning of July". (see press release No. 169).
An additional important goal of the workshops and the entire masterplan process is contributing to closer dialogue and even better networking by bringing together different health care key players in the workshops. There will also be close cooperation with the offices recently established in the context of "Health Region PLUS" funding by the State of Bavaria in April this year at the Health Department in the premises of the Regensburg district administration.
With the project Health Region PLUS the health care sector in the City and in the District of Regensburg shall be strengthened by better networking. "Both representatives from the Health Department have participated in the current workshop and will coordinate their activities closely with our project", commented Dr. Diefenthal on the collaboration. With the next topic of digitalization the BioPark will work closely together with its sister center TechBase. The latter currently coordinates the digital start-up center in Upper Palatinate and hosts the offices of both Bavarian clusters for IT security and IT logistics, by which manifold interfaces in e-health matters can be explored on site.
