Fifth Workshop on Health Care Sector
In December 2015 the results of a location analysis on the health care sector in the region of Regensburg were presented, which the city of Regensburg had commissioned through BioPark Regensburg GmbH. The results unveiled chances and potentials within the growth area of the health care sector (see press release no. 162). One of the recommendations for action of the location analysis was the creation of a "Health Care Sector Masterplan" for the city and the region of Regensburg. „In order to set the content cornerstones for the various topics of the masterplan we have set up a workshop series”, explained Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, CEO of BioPark Regensburg GmbH.
During the past four workshops, the different topics of "Cell Therapy and Oncology", "Digitalization / E-Health / Telemedicine / Medical Technology", “Aging Society” and “Skilled Professionals & Education“ were discussed (also see press releases no. 171, 172, 174, 179). The recent fifth workshop now focused on the topics “Location Marketing & Economic Development“. For this important topic, Dieter Daminger, Councilor for Economic, Financial and Research Affairs of the City of Regensburg and furthermore member of the Executive Board of the BioPark GmbH, also joined the workshop. In addition, experts from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), from the University of Regensburg and from further research institutions as well as from hospitals and care institutions in Regensburg participated.
In the beginning of the workshop, marketing expert Hans Bauer gave an impressive keynote speech on the topic of the Aging Society and on how people and marketers currently deal with the term “age”. Based on this, Mr. Bauer also made first recommendations for the wording of this topic taking into account the various different target groups of the masterplan. Following the keynote speech, professional business coach Dr. Paola Rodà facilitated the discussion on the topic “Healthy Aging”. With her extensive experience on dealing with the term “age” from many workshops, e.g., on the topic of “preparation for retirement”, Dr. Rodà thus developed different perspectives on the topic together with the workshop participants. The group intensively discussed the challenges coming with the aging population, but also the chances and potentials for the health care sector which are connected with this mega trend, and gave recommendations on how the region of Regensburg should prepare for this development.
„During our workshops we particularly want to map out various links and possible synergies, which exist between the fields of action and the cross-cutting themes which we had identified in the location analysis and which we will use as structure for the masterplan – for example, the synergies and opportunities for medical care and nursing that come along with digitalization and e-health”, mentions Dr. Oliver Müller, author of the location analysis and Partner in the field of Pharma & Health at Detecon International GmbH, who supports the workshops and the process for development of the masterplan with his consulting team.
Detecon is a worldwide active consulting company, which unites classical management consulting with great digital technology expertise. As a subsidiary of T-Systems, Detecon is a part of the Telekom Group and merges business and technology perspectives into a consistent digital change journey for its clients.
„Following up on the workshop on “Location Marketing & Economic Development”, we want to conduct another sixth workshop in February, which will focus on the topic of “Innovation & Company Founding”, explains Dr. Diefenthal. “It is our goal to present the finalized masterplan in the fall of 2017. The document shall contain an overview of the potential as well as initial recommendations for action”, adds Dr. Ilja Hagen, who has joined the BioPark team as project manager for healthcare since the beginning of October (see also press release no. 173). This is also of high interest for the Free State of Bavaria. The state supports the activities with a project grant for “Promotion of Healthcare in Regensburg / Cluster” financing the two positions created for this purpose at BioPark Regensburg GmbH as well as associated materials for the first three years.
