Current Financial Report 2013 for BioRegio Regensburg

The number of biotechnology companies (core Biotech Definition according to CapGemini Consulting) has risen slightly in comparison to last year from 28 to 29 companies (+1). The number of biotech employees grew significantly from 912 to 1,024 (+ 11%), which reflects the good economic situation particularly in the service companies in the region. The total number of life science companies rose from 47 companies in the previous year to 48 companies (+1). The total number of employees at the cut-off date 31.12.2013 was at 3,369 again significantly greater than the previous year with 3,152 employees (+6.5%).
This anniversary the BioPark is celebrating its 15 year existence. A reason for managing director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal and Dieter Daminger to draw first conclusions. 41.1 million € alone was invested in the buildings on the University Campus of Regensburg. Of this the State of Bavaria invested 20.6 million €, the State 9.7 billion €, the City of Regensburg 5.6 billion €,  BioPark GmbH itself 4.3 billion € and the European Union 0.9 Mio. €. With the commissioning of BioPark I (2001), BioPark II (2006) und finally BioPark III (2011), the BioPark accommodate today on 18,000 m2 37 leaseholders with a total of 601 employees. The companies, the founders and university institutions come from the fields of biotech (11), diagnostics/analytics (7), medical technology (3), pharmaceuticals (1) services (9) and others (5) e.g. an on-site childcare facility. The companies Geneart and Amgen (see previous press release) and both Fraunhofer working groups are only some of the successful examples from BioPark Regensburg.
