Current Business Report 2007 BioRegio Regensburg

The number of biotech companies (definition according to CapGemini Deutschland GmbH) is, with its 26 companies at the niveau of the previous year, almost stabile. The number of biotech employees has risen from 685 to 896. Foundations and locating of businesses has maintained a balance with insolvency and relocations for years. The strong growth can be attributed to the successful development of the companies in BioPark (Geneart AG, Antisense Pharma GmbH, Profos AG). In the field of life sciences (biotechnology, medical technology, diagnostics/analysis) 40 companies with 2,429 employees were active in the technology cluster at BioRegio Regensburg in East Bavaria on the closing date of 31.12.2007. Also here the number of employees particularly in the branch of medical technology has risen sharply. “The long term investment in biotechnology and life sciences is slowly but surely making itself evident most positively in Regensburg/East Bavaria”, reports the Managing Director of the BioPark Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. “However we cannot let up on our efforts for the promotion of technology in the region” he explained regarding the current situation of over-filled BioPark buildings and the efforts of the City of Regensburg to create further space for young technology-oriented enterprises.
