Commerce Minister Müller attends BIO Trade Fair in the USA
Also this year the companies and cluster of the State of Bavaria were represented once again at the world-leading trade fair of the biotechnology industry. Bavaria’s Commerce Minister Emilia Müller was visibly impressed at a visit to the trade fair by the white-blue presence: “The BIO International Convention is a very good platform for our companies to present their worldwide competitive competence in research and innovation. Here our companies are demonstrating impressively that Bavaria holds a top position in the biotechnology industry.” The visit to the BIO International Convention was part of the Commerce Minister’s visit to California. “Today we can see Bavaria has built up and promoted leading research centres in the fields of biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry.
The dynamic biotechnology cluster with locations in Munich, Regensburg and Würzburg with over 240 companies in Bavaria, offers large pharmaceutical companies good opportunities for cooperation, to fill up dried out product pipelines. The Bavarian biotechnology companies have around half of all the German products, which are in clinical phase. Also almost every second biotechnology company listed on the German stock exchange has its headquarters in Bavaria”, emphasized Müller at her trade fair visit. Important companies in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry such as Aventis, Amgen, Biogen-Idec, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Elan Pharma, Astellas, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Medigene, Roche, Serono, 4SC or Daiichi Sankyo have their German or European subsidiaries in Bavaria.
Contracted by the Bavarian Ministry of Commerce, Bayern International organised their own Bavarian Information and Service Stand at the BIO International Convention. The Bavarian exhibitors grouped here and were advised by Bayern International. The trade fair stand was integrated with the German Federal jointly owned companies in the “German Pavilion”. The BIO International Convention, with its venue alternating each year, is the leading biotechnology trade fair worldwide. For this field it is the most important annual point to meet in the North American market. In addition to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, there were other prominent speakers such as Colin L. Powell and Craig Venter as participants at the conference. BioPark Regensburg GmbH represented the BioRegio Regensburg with CEO Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, the City of Regensburg with Commerce and Finance Official Dieter Daminger and the companies IRIS Biotech GmbH and Antisense Pharma GmbH.
