BioRegio Regensburg Makes Contacts in Asia
Through the Toshiba Europe Factory and the Development Bank of Japan, the city of Regensburg already has a long standing relationship with the land of the rising sun. Subsequently, BioPark has become the goal of visits from the Japanese delegations, most recently the Toyama Medical Bio-Cluster. With 400 companies and 30,000 employees Japan belongs to the leading hightech nations. The Bavarian Biotechnology regions were able to deepen their contacts at this year's BioJapan Trade Show 2004. The Geneart Co. located in BioPark, is collaborating with one of the largest biotech companies in Japan, TaKaRa Bio Inc. in Otsu (Shiga) in order to meet the demands of the growing market in Asia. Another BioPark tenant, the PreSens Co. is working together with the Sanyo Trading Co. from Tokyo in customer service. The Regensburg based Biocam GmbH company was able to present its ideas at the Business Partnership Forum.
Next to Japan, Korea and China the City-State, Singapore, is one of the most booming research locations in the world. This made is possible to construct the 185,000 sqm, 250,000,000 Euro “Biopolis”, a research center, in which 5000 researchers will be working. A cooperative German stand at the BioTechnica Asia 2004 (trade show), afforded Regensburg companies the opportunity to make their first business contacts in Singapore. Products “Made in Germany” by the Entelechon, PreSens and Geneart companies went down exceptionally well in Singapore. BioPark and its partner region BioMedTech Franken were able to hold talks with local networks and visited Biopolis.
