BioPark Regensburg is expanding and once more booked out
The first construction phase (13.5 million €, 6,000 sqm) was already rapidly booked out at its opening in 25 May 2001. The second construction phase, which then became necessary (11.5 million €, 6,000 sqm), was inaugurated on the 23 June 2006. "The rapid development of the companies on site and the taking on of new leaseholders and establishment of further research institutes filled the site more quickly than anticipated“ reported the Managing Director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. "In addition to the high standard of building technology and equipment, the position of the University of Regensburg’s campus with a direct connection to the city and highway is a crucial factor in its success". "Our companies use the university infrastructure intensively and value the direct contact with research groups at clinics and institutes", confirmed the Finance and Business Adviser of the City of Regensburg Dieter Daminger. "With the full occupancy of both buildings, we have been able to prove impressively that the funds from the State of Bavaria and the City of Regensburg, and the loans from the KfW Bank Group have been used purposefully and efficiently". Currently discussions are taking place with potential partners to determine development opportunities for the location.
