BioPark Jump Accelerator started in Regensburg
BioPark Jump is specifically designed to provide a contact point for those interested in founding and start-ups from the healthcare and life sciences sectors on all topics relating to regulation and licensing in the healthcare sector. The range of ideas that can be addressed by start-ups is broad. “It ranges from the digitalization of processes in outpatient and inpatient care to the optimization of treatment methods and patient care to solutions for improving working conditions in the healthcare system,” said project manager Dr. Alexandra Sauter.
The main goal of the accelerator is to support participating teams in tackling the many challenges facing the healthcare industry. “In my almost 25 years of consulting for start-ups at BioPark, I have unfortunately had to experience that one or two companies were unable to successfully start-up their innovative idea because they did not take into account the special requirements for clinical studies or licensing in advance or reimbursement of costs by the health insurance companies,” said BioPark managing director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. Therefore, BioPark Jump not only offers co-working spaces, private offices and laboratory rooms, but also individual coaching and advice from experts from the respective industries. The program's workshops and seminars focus on key topics such as certification, reimbursement and clinical evidence that must be addressed early to ensure successful market entry into the healthcare sector.
BioPark Jump will work closely with the existing start-up networks, such as the BioPark Brain 8 Network, the technology and transfer facilities of the universities and regional industry partners. Due to the thematic overlap in the area of digitalization, there is close coordination with the clusters and activities of the city of Regensburg as well asTechBase and Digitale Gründerinitiative Oberpfalz (DGO).
The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is initially funding the project for three years. Application for the funding program is possible at any time. A special highlight of the program: For teams that have not yet been founded, so-called “pre-seeders”, the use of the BioPark premises is free for up to 12 months. The current participants in the accelerator include Evanium Healthcare GmbH, which is working on a method for better absorption of poorly soluble herbal active ingredients in the human body, GoEcoFit GmbH, which is developing a digital solution for corporate health management for companies, and the Medespro-medical team-design-project, which is working on an AI-based app for improved location-independent wound documentation for patients with chronic wounds.
