BioPark Becomes Part of Strategic Partnership in Brazil
The State of Minas Gerais is one of the strongest economic States in Brazil, with the third largest city in Brazil, Sao Paulo, founded in 1897; the region is a hub for information and biotechnologies and has one of the most important universities in the country. There are 75 biotech companies, with 3,300 employees in the region, with an active turnover of 150 mio. Euro. As in Bavaria, 25% of the Brazilian biotech companies are located in Belo Horizonte, so it’s the largest biotechnology cluster in Brazil. The Fundação Biominas society was founded in 1990 and has such notable partners as the university, the state government and the Interamerican Development Bank. The CEO Eduardo Emrich Soares visited BioPark Regensburg and signed an agreement with BioPark CEO Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, in order to stimulate contacts between German and Brazilian companies in the regions. The ITMS Deutschland GmbH Company (telemedicine) is located in Uberlândia as ITMS Telemedicina do Brasil and the BioGents GmbH (biological pesticides) collaborates with its sister company Evotec Biotechnologia Para A Vida in Belo Horizonte.
