Bionorica despite the crisis – renews turnover record in 2008
“More confidence” is the name of an initiative of the Mittelbayerischen Zeitung (MZ) Newspaper, which reports on companies who are braving the current financial and economic crisis. Whilst many companies are announcing shortening of work hours, profit reductions and redundancies, Bionorica AG is, with 750 employees worldwide, one of the leading manufacturers of phytopharmaceuticals with a record turnover of 130 million € (+ 21.4 % in comparison to the preceding year) on the route to success. The company specialises in the fields of respiratory disease and gynaecology. With "phytoneering" Bionorica has founded a new field in pharmacy for the future: Phytoneering stands for the extraction and development of plant-based (phyto) active substances with innovative technological engineering. But this mid-sized company is not only on the route to success in Germany. According to the MZ Newspaper, Bionorica is also increasing its turnover in Eastern Europe. Russia has grown to be the second largest market following Germany. In the USA Bionorica products have taken off to the degree that they are continually sold out in chain stores such as Wal-Mart. The “pipeline“ is also being constantly filled: in Austria a study in the field of prostate cancer has commenced, a further research field is dealing with the prevention of osteoporosis. Bionorica is also working on a medicine as a complementary therapy for extremely ill patients who are suffering from AIDS, cancer or multiple sclerosis.
