BayernFIT invests further in BioRegio Regensburg
With the future programmes “Offensive Future Bavaria" and “High-Tech-Offensive", Bavaria has invested since 1995 beyond and above the regular budget around an additional 3 billion Euros in research and innovation. The success has been measurable: between 1996 and 2006 the Bavarian economy grew by 2.4 percent each year on average - a full one percent more than the German average (1.4 percent). In BioRegio Regensburg the first and second construction phases of the BioPark and many projects for tertiary education institutions and the economy have been promoted. Here success has been also measurable. The number of companies has more than doubled and the number of employees even increased fourfold. BayernFIT is linking into.
With the new programme “BayernFIT - Research, Innovation, Technology" from the Bavarian State Government, the privatisation funds originally planned for the Transrapid to the sum of 490 million Euros are being invested in research and technology projects throughout Bavaria. In total the programme encompasses 1.5 billion €, approximately one billion Euros come from the programme “Future Bavaria 2020“. More than a third of the total funds are to flow into the development of tertiary education institutions. So-called lighthouse projects are also being promoted, such as the Biomedical Research Centre in Martinsried or the Bavarian Research Network for Immunotherapy, which is coordinated from Regensburg.
The projects in BioRegio Regensburg in detail (promotion totals);
- BioPark Regensburg (8 million €): grant for 3rd construction phase to expand BioPark Regensburg GmbH by 6,000 m2 to a total of 18,000 m2.
- Life Science Regensburg (5 million €): development of the Fraunhofer-Project Group “Tumour and metabolic diseases” of the University of Regensburg based in BioPark Regensburg.
- Chemo and Biosensor Technology (4.5 million €): development of a Fraunhofer Project group in the field of sensor technology for the development of new microsensors in the field of medicine/biotechnology, environmental monitoring and product control, also in conjunction with companies at BioPark Regensburg.
- Application Centre Sensor Technology (1 million €): development of an application centre in cooperation with tertiary education institutions and the economy within the Bavarian Sensor Technology Cluster based in BioPark Regensburg.
- BayImmuNet Bavarian Immunotherapy-Network (10 million €): Promotion of the new lighthouse project for the grouping of Bavarian competences in the field of immunotherapy with its coordination based at the University of Regensburg.
- Biogenic raw materials (5 million €): development of a Fraunhofer project group in the field of sustainable raw materials as a starting point material for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The project located in Straubing should be set up for the promotion to make changes in using raw materials steering away from oil and gas and moving onto to plant-based raw materials.
