Süd-Chemie builds large facility for Biofuels in East Bavaria

Süd-Chemie AG with its headquarters in Munich is building the largest facility for the  biotechnological manufacture of biofuels from straw - the so-called second generation fuels - in Straubing on the Danube, approximately 45 kilometres from Regensburg. The 28 million € future project is being funded by the Bavarian State Government and the BMBF with 5 million € respectively.

Second Fraunhofer Working Group starts up in Regensburg

In BioPark Regensburg a working group for sensor technology materials - “Sensormaterialien” - has started up. The working group funded with 4.5 million € from the State of Bavaria is an integral component of the Department for Polytronic Systems of Fraunhofer IZM in Munich and develops novel chemo- and biosensors. In addition to the working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, this is the second external university institution in the BioPark.

Amgen obtains licence for preparation for osteoporosis

The US-Biotech Concern Amgen has obtained a licence for a new preparation for osteoporosis in the USA and Europe. With the use of the genetically-manufactured antibody “Denosumab” bone loss can now be stopped in patients for the first time.

The first certified tumour centre – it’s from Regensburg

The Tumor Centre in Regensburg is the first centre in Germany to have been certified in accordance with ISO 9001. In achieving this, the centre has given an important signal along its pathway to more transparency and efficiency in the field of cancer therapy.
