Opening of the Campus Trail at BioPark Regensburg
Staying active and fit is equally important for students and employees of the universities as well as the companies and institutions at the BioPark. In a joint project, the BioPark and the University of Regensburg have brought the Campus Trail to life with the health insurance Techniker Krankenkasse. You can run, power walk or go for a walk on the signposted 4.5 km long fitness trail.
At the beginning of 2018, a company health management system (BGM) was launched at BioPark Regensburg, an enterprise of the City of Regensburg, under the coordination of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). The "BioBalance - Work & Life @ BioPark" project offers startups, companies and university institutions a wide range of in-house exercise and relaxation courses as well as seminars on themes such as nutrition or stress management. There was a desire from numerous stakeholders for a permanent, course and thus time-independent fitness pathway. Together with the "smart moving" university initiative, BioPark and TK brought to life and planned the "Campus Trail" and implemented it with the Sport Center of the University Regensburg and the agencies Bauer.com Communication & Marketing and Prisma Werbung Hans Merkl. The result is a signposted, 4.5 km long circular route with a total of 8 exercise stations. The circular route includes the entire university campus with the University of Regensburg and the East Bavarian Technical University (OTH) Regensburg, leads past the university sports center and has its start and end point at BioPark III.
At the opening ceremony on April 27, Mayor Dr. Astrid Freudenstein, responsible for the Department of Sport and Leisure of the City of Regensburg and the Vice President of the University Prof. Dr. Susanne Leist gave the welcoming address. BioPark Managing Director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal and TK team leader Michael Reinhold thanked the BGM working group and demonstrated the sustainable and versatile use of the Campus Trail. "You can jog, power walk or simply go for a walk," commented Diefenthal. " With this running route, we have a great offer for all interested target groups, from students and employees to managers. Fitness has never been so close," added Reinhold. Dr. Uta Engels, Head of the Sports Center at the University of Regensburg, designed the Campus Trail and its exercise signs as part of the CampusMobil and Smart Moving projects. The projects aim to implement more movement in the often sedentary lifestyle of students and employees.
On the subject of motivation, Andreas Niedrig held a short presentation entitled “From Junkie to Ironman!”. He described very impressively the role of sport in his life. With its help, he managed to overcome homelessness, drug addiction and obstacles and became one of the most successful triathletes (Ironman) in the world. For him, sport and health form the basis for a satisfying and goal-oriented life and thereby for professional success in personal responsibility and self-realization.
