Sustainability assessment in the BioPark

A sustainability assessment was carried out by Bayern Innovativ GmbH in Nuremberg in the BioPark via the EU-funded program „IMP3ROVE Corporate Sustainability Navigator (SNS). The assessment covers all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2023, which serve to achieve sustainable development on an economic, social and ecological level. On more than 60 pages, the evaluation of the benchmarking report documents the status quo with strengths and weaknesses of the BioPark on this topic. In the areas of profit (economic sustainability) and people (social sustainability), an above-average number of SDGs have already been implemented. The report sees the future challenges in joint actions with the leaseholders in the BioPark (resources e.g. energy and waste as well as additional disposal systems). The study sees further potential for improvement in the management of sustainable development as a subsidiary together with the city of Regensburg and other municipal companies. To this end, joint monitoring of sustainable goals has already been decided. The study also sees a lot of potential in green tech startup funding. While the first activities in the field of biologically generated green energy (biogas/hydrogen) are already underway, according to a recent study by Ernst & Young „Green Health“ - sustainability in healthcare, the reduction in medical plastic disposable consumables offers enormous development potential in the future.
