Regensburg Healthcare Masterplan
Evaluating Regensburg’s healthcare economy, BioPark, together with 80 stakeholders, has defined opportunities, potential and recommendations for action for the local healthcare sector in a resulting masterplan. One focal point is the promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of healthcare, as this area requires specialist knowledge and support for the highly regulated German healthcare market. Many start-up ideas fail at an early stage due to the various regulatory requirements of medical product development.
Most support programs in the start-up field are technology-oriented and not industry-oriented. Consequently, start-ups primarily focus on the development of an innovative technology and the so-called entrepreneurship essentials. Although important, entering the German healthcare market with its specific hurdles, industry-specific topics such as certification, reimbursement and clinical evidence must be addressed at an early stage.
Support program for start-ups located on the Regensburg university campus
This is where the BioPark Jump funding project has been based since 2023.
The aim of the healthcare accelerator BioPark Jump is to support start-ups in an early founding phase to consider all regulatory requirements necessary in the development process of their medical product right from the start.
The accelerator program helps with the development of a functioning business model as well as in the procurement of financial resources or the preparation of an investor deck to successfully master the first investor’s pitch.
BioPark Jump provides the teams with premises such as coworking spaces, private offices, and laboratory space, imparts industry-relevant knowledge in workshop formats and brings the teams together with the BioPark's partner network via events and b2b talks. This includes users from clinics and care facilities, health insurance companies, manufacturing companies and people with many years of experience in the areas of certification and reimbursement.
The accelerator works closely with the nearby Regensburg universities and other start-up institutions such as the Digital Start-up Initiative Upper Palatinate.
BioPark Jump is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy and is part of the Bavarian Start-up Initiative “Gründerland Bayern” and the Bavarian Biotechnology Cluster.
