Fields of research

Apart from its engagement in patients' care and students' education the Department of Hematology and Oncology puts special emphasis on preclinical laboratory research. Of special importance are aspects of translational research from bench to bedside. A total of 490 qm laboratory space including a special unit for GMP production of cells financed by the Deutsche José Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung are available.

  • Cellular therapy with allogeneic and autologous cells including both hematopoietic stem cells as well as T- and NK-cell products and cellular vaccines
  • Differentiation and activation of monocytes/macrophages and dendritic cells
  • Pathophysiology of graft-versus-host disease
  • Characterisation of and gene transduction in early hematopoietic stem cells
