Project Health Care Regensburg
With the presentation of the results of the location analysis on healthcare in the region of Regensburg in 2015 BioPark started its next step forward. Everything had started with core competency biotechnology, followed by the “life sciences” around medical technology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and analytics. This was followed by the involvement of companies from other industries such as the metal, textile, plastics and glass industries in the region, which interact interdisciplinarily with the life sciences. As a further consequence the BioPark has been increasingly networking since 2012 with companies from the health industry and has already settled the first start-ups and companies at the BioPark.
The location analysis, which was conducted by the consulting company Capgemini Consulting, took place with representatives from clinics and hospitals, medical practitioners, tertiary institutions, rehabilitation and care facilities, politics and administration as well as from other health regions and clusters. It demonstrated the opportunities and potential for the city and the region in this area of growth. One of the recommendations for action in the location analysis was the creation of a “Masterplan for Healthcare” for Regensburg and the region. To set the cornerstones of the various topics, since 2016 with the help of the consulting company Detecon a workshop series with the experts was set up. These include topics on cell therapy and oncology, digitalization, e-health, telemedicine and medical technology, an ageing society, qualified professionals & educational training, location marketing and business development, as well as innovation & start-ups in the field of healthcare.
At the beginning of 2017 the new trademark “Healthcare Regensburg” was launched to be able to fulfil the wishes of all the stakeholders for common visibility of the health location. By the end of the year the masterplan will be created, from which also the initial recommendations for action and project proposals for further development of healthcare at the Regensburg location and in the region are to emerge. The project is being funded by the State of Bavaria for three years.
